Summer is the period when restaurants in Trastevere are animated by many people, both from locals and from foreigners from all over the world. Even just walking through the alleys it is easy to hear people speak in Roman dialect, but also in many other languages. Because one of the essential stages of any visit to the Eternal City is undoubtedly Trastevere, the most authentic historical district.
But what’s better than a taste to know the true essence of a place? Here are our tips on the best tables to sit in Trastevere.
Trastevere Restaurants: where to eat Pizza
If there is one thing that is not lacking in Trastevere, that is pizza: ancient ovens, pizzerias, pizza restaurants … at every corner of the neighborhood it is easy to find the most loved Italian food in the world, being guided by its irresistible scent. And if you want to taste an excellent Roman pizza, the first place to try is “Ai Marmi” on Viale Trastevere, a few steps from our Ripa apartment. In this location in full 70s style, you will taste authentic Roman pizza, but also a super crispy supplì.
Another excellent pizzeria in the neighborhood is “Dar Poeta”, which is located in one of the most beautiful alleys, as well as close to our Paglia apartment.
Finally, one last tip for those who prefer to enjoy Roman street food while walking through the neighborhood. A few steps from our Calisto house, “Supplì” is one of the city’s landmarks in terms of Roman street food. Here you will find the best typical delicacies: from pizza to cutting to courgette flowers and fried cod fillets, as well as of course the famous rice ball.
Trastevere Restaurants: where to find the best typical roman cuisine
Typical Roman cuisine is loved and appreciated all over the world. The undisputed symbols are the succulent pasta dishes based on “guanciale” and pecorino and the many equally enjoyable seconds. Among the many typical restaurants and taverns that cover the city, we want to recommend two really special ones.
The first is located in the heart of the Trastevere district, very close to our Garibaldi holiday home. The “Trattoria de Gli Amici” is a restaurant born from a solidarity project promoted by the Community of Sant’Egidio: inside it, many disabled people work alongside the community volunteers. At the Trattoria you will taste the best recipes of Roman cuisine in an incredibly welcoming atmosphere.
Another unmissable address is the historic trattoria “Da Felice” in Testaccio, a few meters from our Vespucci apartment. Not far from Trastevere, Testaccio is one of the historic districts of the capital, a reference point for lovers of typical Roman cuisine. “Da Felice”, in particular, is the most renowned in the area, especially for Cacio e Pepe, considered one of the best in the city. To make the experience even more magical, it is the preparation of the typical recipe completed at the table by the waiter who turns and turns the pasta until you get the delicious creamy sauce.
Trastevere Restaurants: tips for something unusual
But in Trastevere, in addition to the typical Roman cuisine and pizza, there are many other places where you can enjoy an excellent dinner. For fish lovers we recommend, for example, “Le mani in pasta”, an intimate tavern in Via dei Genovesi, a few steps from Genovesi apartment. Here you will find only fresh fish and seasonal raw materials to enrich the dishes on the menu.
If, on the other hand, you prefer a more trendy restaurant with traditional (but not too much) cuisine, “Pianostrada” is for you. In this very welcoming place, you will find a great variety of dishes with the best flavors of Mediterranean cuisine. The location is located in the center in Via delle Zoccolette, just a ten minute walk from our Sales holiday home.
These were our recommendations for the best restaurants in Trastevere. What is your favorite?
